Developed by university students, Canadian mobile chat app aims to be North America’s most popular
April 10, 2015 - Founded in 2009 by a group of University of Waterloo students, Kik is a Canadian-made mobile chat app with 200 million registered users, over $70 million in raised funds, and ambitions to be North America’s dominant chat app.
Though Kik has now opened offices in New York and San Francisco, referring to the location of its head office in Waterloo, Ontario, CEO Ted Livingston maintains that "It’s our greatest strength because we are beside what we think is the best source of technical talent in the world." No less than 60% of Kik’s employees are University of Waterloo graduates.
