Issam is an international alumni from Senegal who studied Business Administration in Canada. Find out why he decided to study and work in French in Nova Scotia, how he chose the right education institution for himself, and how he integrated into his community.
“For me, the most memorable thing I've experienced in Canada is my graduation, which was a success both for me and my family. The second most memorable thing was the day I obtained my Canadian citizenship. I was really proud to see an accomplishment with all the journey I've had as an immigrant.”

Video transcript
My name is Issam Wade, originally from Senegal, and I graduated from Université Sainte-Anne in Nova Scotia.
Coming and studying in French in an English-speaking province allowed me to practice my English, which is very important because Canada is a bilingual country.
At Université Sainte-Anne, it’s like being part of a family. They explain the courses to us, which really helps us to adapt naturally.
I’ve had the good fortune and privilege of continuing my career in French in Nova Scotia with the Conseil de développement économique de la Nouvelle-Écosse.
Studying in Canada really prepared me for my current career, because we have very specific studies that are also relevant to our careers.
For me, my integration was through sport. I love "foot", soccer. I had a great experience at university with friends and the student community. We used to do a lot of soccer tournaments, and that helped us integrate easily into the community too.
To all international students, if you want to succeed in Canada, you have to integrate into the community, participate in activities and volunteer. It’s very important to facilitate integration and develop your network. The key to success is networking.
I consider myself privileged to live here in Canada.
