Organization of American States (OAS): Call for Papers on advancing and promoting human rights

November 7, 2023 – In celebration of the 75th Anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the Organization of American States (OAS) launched a Call for Papers on the importance and impact of international and regional instruments on advancing and promoting human rights.

This is an initiative of the Permanent Mission of Canada to the OAS in collaboration with the Social Inclusion Department of the OAS Secretariat for Access to Rights and Equity.

If you are between 18 and 30 and are engaged in community work advocating on behalf of people in situations of vulnerability in the Americas, and are interested in making your voice heard, the OAS invites you to send a paper on one of the following topics:

• Freedom of expression and of assembly
• Rights of persons with disabilities
• Rights of women and girls
• Rights of LGBTIQ+
• Indigenous peoples
• Sexual and reproductive health
• Afro-descendants
• Rights of migrants
• Rights of older persons

Deadline: November 16, 2023 (5 p.m. EST)

The evaluation Committee will select up to 4 papers. The winners will have an opportunity to present virtually their paper at the Permanent Council of the OAS on December 5.
